What is A9 ® Technology?
The A9® Technology is based on an innovative principle: it does not alter the properties of engine oil, unlike conventional additives. It is a film-forming treatment that creates a residual film of 0.1 micron thickness on the internal metal surfaces of engines. This film acts as a protective barrier between moving parts, reducing friction, excessive temperatures, and wear.
Unlike most additives on the market, which alter the chemical composition of oils, the A9 ® Technology is miscible but not soluble. This means it integrates into the engine without disrupting the properties of multigrade oils, and consequently, it does not void manufacturer warranties, a major advantage for users.
History: A response to the limitations of traditional oils
Since the advent of internal combustion engines, lubrication has always been a crucial issue for engineers. Engine oils have evolved over the decades to achieve a high level of performance, suitable for all types of vehicles. However, these oils, while essential, have significant limitations:over time, they become acidic, creating metal-to-metal friction, thus accelerating wear and corrosion of parts.This problem is particularlyexacerbated during cold starts,which are responsible for themajority of premature wearof engines.
It is in response to these observations that A9® Technology was born in 1988. This need arose particularly due to the difficulties encountered with standardized lubricants. Used to protect high-value vehicles left stationary for extended periods, these modern lubricants have proven ineffective: after several months of non-use, they acidify in mechanical systems (engine, mechanical or automatic transmission), damaging metal surfaces and leading to significant repair costs.
Aware of these limitations, a group of engineers and scientists specialized in tribology (the study of friction) undertook, in the 1990s, to find a solution that would address the shortcomings of traditional lubricants. After several years of research and rigorous testing, the A9® Technology was born. This revolutionary film-forming treatment was designed to protect engines against oil acidification, reduce friction, and extend the lifespan of mechanical components, without disrupting the intrinsic properties of the oils.
